Impact of Ekathra
Through community-based tourism, we ensure that local voices lead the way, nature is protected, and every experience leaves a positive impact.
For over twenty years, Team Ekathra has been actively promoting community-based tourism (CBT) across Kerala as a meaningful and sustainable alternative to conventional tourism. Rooted in the region’s rich natural and cultural heritage, CBT places local communities at the heart of the experience—giving them a voice, a role, and a fair share of the benefits.
Through this approach, local people are directly involved in planning and managing tourism activities. This ensures that tourism grows at a pace they choose and in ways that support their well-being and environment. With decision-making power in their hands, communities are better equipped to protect their traditions, culture, and surroundings.
CBT also plays a key role in environmental conservation. Tourism income encourages communities to take care of their natural assets—by saving water and energy, protecting local habitats, and planting trees. Ekathra supports this by guiding travelers to use public transport and rely on local resources, helping to reduce each visitor’s carbon footprint.
By linking tourism with economic opportunity, cultural preservation, and ecological balance, CBT offers a sustainable path forward. It not only uplifts communities but also offers travelers deeper, more meaningful experiences that celebrate the spirit, culture, and beauty of each place they visit.
