Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism
A bold step toward a more sustainable, resilient future for people and planet.
The Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism is a landmark global initiative launched at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in 2021. It serves as a unified call to action for all tourism stakeholders—governments, businesses, destinations, and travelers—to accelerate climate action across the tourism sector.
Recognizing tourism’s significant contribution to global carbon emissions, the Glasgow Declaration urges signatories to commit to halving emissions by 2030 and achieving Net Zero by 2050 at the latest. It emphasizes the need for transparent, science-based, and collaborative approaches to climate action, grounded in the principles of sustainability and resilience.
The Declaration focuses on five key pathways:
Measure – | Understand and track emissions. |
Decarbonize – | Reduce emissions in operations and value chains. |
Regenerate – | Restore and protect ecosystems and biodiversity. |
Collaborate – | Work across sectors and borders for systemic change. |
Finance – | Ensure investments support climate-positive outcomes. |
By endorsing the Glasgow Declaration, tourism entities demonstrate leadership and a shared responsibility in transforming travel into a force for climate resilience and environmental stewardship.
Ekathra Experiences’ Commitment to the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism
At Ekathra Experiences, we believe that meaningful travel must contribute to the well-being of the planet as much as it enriches the soul. In alignment with our values and purpose, we are proud to join the global community of signatories to the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism.
By endorsing the Declaration, Ekathra Experiences commits to urgent, transparent, and collaborative climate action. We recognize the tourism sector’s responsibility in addressing the climate crisis and pledge to do our part by supporting the Declaration’s five pathways:
Measure – We will actively assess and monitor the carbon emissions associated with our operations and experiences, ensuring that our actions are informed by accurate data.
Decarbonize – We will implement strategies to reduce emissions across our services, including the promotion of low-impact travel, sustainable materials, and climate-friendly infrastructure.
Regenerate – Our experiences are designed to restore and celebrate natural and cultural heritage. We will continue to foster regenerative tourism practices that heal ecosystems, empower communities, and preserve indigenous knowledge.
Collaborate – We will work in partnership with local stakeholders, artisans, community leaders, and fellow tourism organizations to build a resilient, climate-conscious tourism model.
Finance – We will ensure that our investments and resource allocations support long-term climate goals and benefit both people and the planet.
This commitment is not a destination, but a journey—one that requires constant reflection, adaptation, and collective action. Through our experiences, Ekathra aims to inspire travelers to become stewards of the Earth and advocates for a more just and regenerative world.
Together, we can make travel a powerful agent of climate resilience.
