Signatory of CODE

As a proud signatory to The Code, we stand firmly against the exploitation of children-ensuring every journey we offer is grounded in dignity, safety, and respect

The Code (short for The Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism) is a multi-stakeholder initiative with the mission to provide awareness, tools and support to the travel and tourism industry to prevent the sexual exploitation of children. This campaign is coordinated by ECPAT International which has evolved into the world’s largest influencing network fully dedicated to ending the sexual exploitation of children, with a membership of 134 civil society organisations in 110 countries.

The sexual exploitation of children within the travel and tourism sector encompasses a wide range of abuses, including involvement in prostitution and pornography, the creation of online child abuse materials, and the sale and trafficking of children in various forms. Instances such as voluntourism, orphanage tourism, and large-scale sporting events present opportunities for offenders to easily access and exploit vulnerable children. Many perpetrators exploit hotel and other tourism-related facilities to carry out their illicit activities. Therefore, collaboration with the travel and tourism industry is crucial for safeguarding children and eliminating the impunity of offenders.

By joining The Code, travel and tourism companies can access essential tools and resources to enhance their operations. These member organizations showcase their dedication and leadership in the industry by prioritizing child safety. Ekathra is a signatory to The Code, which outlines a voluntary set of criteria that members pledge to uphold in order to protect children. Training on The Code has been provided to all stakeholders and service providers, ensuring strict compliance with the established guidelines across all tour programs and accommodation services organized by Ekathra Experiences.
